Malaysia Accelerates Solar + Energy Storage Development with 2.5GW Tender
Date:2026-08-03
Southeast Asia’s renewable energy transition continues to gain momentum.
Malaysia has launched its sixth Large Scale Solar (LSS6) programme, opening a major tender for 2.5GW of solar PV capacity combined with 1.25GW of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), marking another important step toward a smarter and more flexible energy system.
Led by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), the LSS6 programme will include multiple project packages, with two packages specifically integrating solar PV with battery storage. The largest package targets 2.2GW of solar PV paired with 1.1GW of BESS, creating significant opportunities across the renewable energy value chain.
The move reflects Malaysia’s growing focus on:
Large-scale solar deployment
Grid-scale battery energy storage solutions
Renewable energy integration and grid stability
Accelerating the ASEAN clean energy transition
With Southeast Asian countries increasingly investing in renewable energy infrastructure, technologies including BESS, PCS, EMS, smart grid solutions, and energy management systems are becoming key drivers for the region’s future energy landscape.
As ASEAN moves toward a more resilient and intelligent energy future, ASEE – ASEAN Smart Energy & Energy Storage Expo brings together global innovators, industry leaders, and decision-makers to explore the latest developments in smart energy, renewable integration, and energy storage technologies.
