ASEAN' s Next Energy Growth Cycle: A 100TWh-Scale Demand Is Taking Shape
Date:2026-05-26
ASEAN' s next wave of energy growth may be arriving faster than many expect.
According to the latest report by Bain & Company and Standard Chartered, new electricity demand from data centres, electric vehicles, and green industrial parks in Southeast Asia is projected to exceed 100TWh in the coming years, with total related energy investment potentially surpassing USD 200 billion.
More than half of this investment is expected to flow into the data centre sector. The report highlights that nearly all data centre operators are now willing to pay a premium for faster grid connections. In the era of AI and digitalisation, the speed of power access itself is becoming a new competitive barrier.
At the same time, electricity demand growth across Southeast Asia is expected to outpace the expansion of grid infrastructure. The report also estimates a regional grid investment gap of around USD 18 billion per year by 2035.
This is reshaping the supply-demand structure of ASEAN' s energy market., the region is increasingly seeing demand for:
- More competitive energy technologies
- Energy storage and grid solutions
- Strong EPC and system integration capabilities
- Energy solution providers with proven long-term delivery capacity
Southeast Asia is gradually shifting from a “high-potential renewable market” into a true energy infrastructure upgrade cycle.
This is also why, as a key industry platform focusing on ASEAN smart energy, solar power, battery storage, and the broader clean energy value chain, ASEE 2027 is gaining increasing attention from energy companies and procurement stakeholders across the region.
