Large-scale energy storage projects in Europe continue to accelerate — BESS is becoming a key infrastructure in the energy transition

Date:2026-05-22

Recently, Turkish energy group GÜRİŞ announced the successful commissioning of its 100MW/200MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Romania.
The project has become the second-largest energy storage project in Romania and one of the first standalone battery storage projects supported by EU funding, attracting strong industry attention.

As renewable energy capacity continues to grow, the European energy market is accelerating the deployment of large-scale energy storage systems to enhance grid stability, manage peak-demand fluctuations, and strengthen energy security.

Several key industry trends can be observed from this project:
• Large-scale BESS projects are rapidly being deployed across Europe
• Energy storage is becoming a core component of renewable energy grid infrastructure
• Demand for grid flexibility and energy security continues to rise
• Asian companies are increasingly participating in the global energy storage supply chain

Against the backdrop of continuous global energy storage expansion, ASEAN is also emerging as one of the most promising regions for smart energy and storage development.

The ASEAN Smart Energy & Energy Storage Expo (ASEE 2027) will continue to serve as an international platform connecting global energy storage technologies, solution providers, and ASEAN market opportunities, fostering deeper collaboration across the global clean energy value chain.
