ASEE Industry Insight | Second-Generation Blade Battery Accelerates Competition in EV and Energy Storage Markets

Date:2026-05-21

The global electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage industries are entering a new phase characterized by ultra-fast charging and large-scale battery deployment.

Recently, Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD Group, stated that the company’s current battery production capacity is under tight pressure, as multiple vehicle models are simultaneously ramping up production. This statement has attracted significant attention across the industry.

Earlier this year, BYD officially launched its second-generation Blade Battery and ultra-fast charging technology. According to publicly available information, the technology enables charging from 10% to 70% in approximately 5 minutes, and up to 97% in around 9 minutes, significantly improving EV energy replenishment efficiency.

The current stage of capacity constraints also reflects several key trends emerging in the new energy industry:

  • Ultra-fast charging is becoming a core competitive focus in the EV sector
  • Battery production capacity is emerging as a critical strategic resource across the supply chain
  • Demand for both electric vehicles and energy storage systems continues to grow rapidly
  • Expansion of battery manufacturing and localization of supply chains is accelerating

With the continued growth of ultra-fast charging technologies, EV adoption, and energy storage demand, Asia’s clean energy supply chain is undergoing rapid restructuring.

While China continues to advance in power battery technology, Southeast Asia is increasingly emerging as a key growth region for global new energy manufacturing, energy storage deployment, and EV industry development.

In particular, under Thailand’s continued support for EV development, battery manufacturing, and smart energy initiatives, Southeast Asia is expected to become an increasingly important strategic hub in the global new energy supply chain.

ASEE 2027 will continue to closely monitor developments in the power battery and energy storage sectors.
