The Philippines is accelerating large-scale renewable energy deployment to strengthen regional energy security. The MTerra Solar project, developed by Terra Solar Philippines under Meralco PowerGen, has successfully synchronized its first phase to the grid. With an installed capacity of 1,288 MWdc and over 600 Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) units, it is expected to cover around 10% of Luzon’s electricity demand once fully operational. This project sets a benchmark in ASEAN for integrated solar + storage deployment.

The project enhances national energy security and provides a reference for other ASEAN countries in building clean energy infrastructure. Its solar + BESS integration effectively manages grid fluctuations and boosts renewable energy absorption, offering a model for future large-scale solar projects in the region.

As ASEAN nations rapidly expand renewable energy and storage, the regional market presents unprecedented growth opportunities. Thailand, as a key ASEAN energy hub, offers incentives including tax breaks, land support, talent development, and encourages battery manufacturers, PV component makers, and system integrators to accelerate local deployment. For international companies, this lowers entry barriers to establish production, R&D, or technical teams, while leveraging local policies and industrial clusters to expand business.
