According to Reuters’ report on September 22, Indian critical minerals company Lohum is seeking to acquire nickel mining resources in Indonesia and the Philippines to expand its battery material supply capabilities. As a key raw material for lithium-ion battery cathodes, nickel is becoming increasingly strategically important with the rapid growth of electric vehicles and energy storage industries.
As two of ASEAN’s major nickel resource suppliers, Indonesia and the Philippines are becoming important hubs for global battery supply chain development. In the future, sectors including critical minerals, battery materials, energy storage systems, and battery recycling are expected to attract further investment and cooperation opportunities.
This trend will further accelerate the upgrading of ASEAN’s new energy industry chain, creating new opportunities for battery manufacturers, energy storage technology providers, energy management companies, and related solution providers to expand their presence in regional markets.
