The Thai government has announced that it will double the capacity of its public solar power scheme from the originally planned 5 GW to 10 GW. The programme is expected to cover 1 million households, further promoting the production and use of clean energy.
In addition to rooftop solar, newly approved installation formats include ground-mounted and floating solar systems, providing more options for different residential conditions and application scenarios.
Under the scheme, households will use the electricity they generate and sell surplus power to the grid at 2.20 baht per kWh. Generation capacity will be capped at 5 kW per household, and the programme is expected to begin in mid-October.
The expansion doubles the scheme’s original capacity target and is expected to generate further demand for solar modules, inverters, smart meters, grid-connection equipment, and installation services.
