Thailand Accelerates Its Rooftop Solar Development
Thailand plans to help one million households install 5GW of rooftop solar within one year, aiming to address rising energy prices and reduce dependence on volatile fuel costs.
The initiative will be supported by a 200 billion baht energy transition emergency fund. The Thai government also plans to provide financial support of up to 50,000 baht per household, along with loans to support rooftop solar installations.
If achieved, the target would more than double Thailand's small-scale solar capacity, further accelerating the adoption of distributed solar across the country.
Currently, solar energy still accounts for a relatively small share of Thailand's power generation. This ambitious target therefore highlights the significant growth potential of Thailand's solar market.
