ASEAN Power Grid Takes Another Major Step Forward
Date:2026-01-17
In January 2026, Electricité du Laos (EDL), Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) signed the Energy Wheeling Agreement – Phase 2 under LTMS-PIP 2.0.
This milestone marks real progress toward ASEAN energy integration:
- Clean power from Laos transmitted via Thailand and Malaysia to Singapore
- Cross-border renewable electricity trading expanded to up to 200 MW
- Leveraging existing grid infrastructure to accelerate implementation
- Creating new opportunities for renewable energy, energy storage, and smart grids
From policy alignment to cross-border grid connectivity,
the ASEAN Power Grid is moving from vision to reality.
