Thailand’s Bold Steps in Renewable Energy Development
Date:2025-05-23
Thailand continues to position itself as a leader in ASEAN’s green transition. In 2025, the Thai government introduced the “Smart Energy Thailand 2035” initiative, setting a target for 50% of total power generation to come from renewables by 2035. Key highlights include:
1\ New feed-in tariffs for solar-plus-storage projects
2\ Accelerated permitting processes for clean energy developers
3\ Increased incentives for foreign investment in smart grids, EV infrastructure, and energy storage

In parallel with policy support, the Thai energy market is also seeing rapid implementation. Notably, in Q1 2025, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) began construction on the country’s largest battery energy storage system (BESS) in Lopburi Province—a 150 MWh project designed to stabilize the grid and support renewable integration. This landmark project is expected to be operational by early 2026 and marks a significant milestone in Thailand’s energy transition journey.
